Akshara Book Week 2025 ~ Day Two

Here are snippets from the second day of Akshara’s Book Week 2025

Standard III

Std. 3 students had an exciting and interactive doodling workshop with artist Varun Naren during Book Week at Akshara High School! He introduced the art of caricature as a powerful way to communicate and express creativity.

With his lively small talks and engaging teaching style, he kept the children smiling and involved throughout the session. He demonstrated doodling techniques using numbers and letters, turning them into creative characters and animals.

Students enjoyed every moment, especially during the “Guess the Character” game, which had both children and teachers actively participating! Varun Naren was truly proud of their enthusiasm and creativity.

A big thank you to Varun Naren for the memorable, fun-filled session that left young minds inspired to explore the world of doodling!

Standard IV

Std. 4 students had an exciting session with author Deepa Balsavar on her book Our Library during Book Week at Akshara High School. The session kicked off with a fun activity where students imagined walking into their school library, taking in its sights, sounds, and smells.

Through engaging discussions, they explored their own strengths and weaknesses, while learning a valuable lesson on empathy. Deepa Balsavar beautifully conveyed how differently-abled children should be treated with kindness and respect.

The session was interactive, thought-provoking, and filled with enthusiasm, leaving students deeply connected with her and the story. A truly inspiring experience that reinforced the importance of libraries and inclusivity!

Standard VII and VIII

Std. 7 & 8 students had an insightful session with Deepa Balsavar, illustrator of Happiness City, written by Bhawna Jaimini. She introduced the concept of books as mirrors and windows—reflecting our own experiences and offering new perspectives.

The discussion revolved around what truly makes a city happy and thriving. Should cities be built by people who only focus on work, or should they prioritize cooperation, community, and joy? Instead of just having parks in a city, shouldn’t we strive for a city within a park?

The session sparked thoughtful debates, especially during an engaging activity on “Does Money Matter Most in Finding Happiness?” Students passionately shared their views, making it a dynamic and reflective experience.

A truly eye-opening session that left everyone thinking about what really makes a place—and its people—happy!

Interacting with Child Authors

Students at Akshara High School had the incredible opportunity to interact with child authors Nishka Sharma (Four Super Tales) and Jayeesha Thakkar (The Dragon Academy) during Book Week! ✍️📚

The young authors shared their inspirations, challenges, and the art of balancing writing with student life. They spoke about their interests and creative processes, giving students a glimpse into the world of storytelling.

The session also featured a beautiful poem recitation of Bloom’s of Spring and the heartfelt story Lakshmi’s Blessing, enriching the literary experience. 📜🌸

Nishka and Jayeesha emphasized that imagination and feedback are key to writing a great book. They encouraged students to believe in themselves, nurture their creativity, and pursue their writing dreams! ✨📝

A truly motivating and inspiring session for the budding writers of Akshara!
